Abstract：This paper deals with the influence of the nitriding process by using an ammonia or ammonia-nitrogen agent on the composition, microstructure and mechanical properties in the nitrided case of the steel parts. The results show that the nitriding process by using an ammonia-nitrogen agent can improve the atmosphere in the furnace. It is beneficial for the diffusion of crystal, and the inhibition of the diffusions of phase transformation and grain boundary. Therefore, the nitrogen content in the solid solution is increased, the nitrides with higher nitrogen content are decreased. All these bring the reduction of the brittleness and the avoidance of the cracks. Thus, the economic benefit has been obtained obviously.
