Hu Yuntao, Zhao Jiaxiang, Wu Yunxue. Statistical Distribution of Mechanical Properties of Composite Materials[J]. Journal of Materials Engineering, 1991, 0(3): 1-3.

To find out the statistical distributions on the mechanical properties of composite materials, a great number of test data was analysized statistically and a simulated study was carried out using a model of "step random break" of fibrous composites. A new conclusion about strength distribution of composite materials was derived, with an explanation from physical background of statistical distributions.

Zhang Bingrong, Yin Weiying. Studies on Synthesis and Hot-Pressing Behaviour of β-SiC Powders[J]. Journal of Materials Engineering, 1991, 0(3): 4-6.

The Synthesis of Submicron β-SiC Powders and the sintering behaviour have been studied. With the raw meterial of Si02 and C powders as the main material, the particle size of SiC powders possessed less than 0.5μm is obtained. And through the observation of the relations among the sintering density, flexure strength and the maintenance time under certain temperatures and pressures as given, the hot-pressing technique suitable for β-SiC has been determined. The resulted sintering material has a relative density of 99% and flexure strength of 600MN/m2.

Zhao Saizhen, Zhao Jiapei. A Study on Interface Between Ti-Alloy and Vitreous Lubricant Used for Forging[J]. Journal of Materials Engineering, 1991, 0(3): 7-9.

This paper makes a study on interface between Ti-alloy and vitreous lubricant used for forging at elevated temperature. The performance of lubricant can be obviously to reduce the diffusion of oxidizing atmosphere and alloying elements, such as Al, Fe, V.

Sun Qiulin, Huang Shimin. Reason of Unqualified Properties and Improvement on the Investment Casting of Structural Steel[J]. Journal of Materials Engineering, 1991, 0(3): 10-13,41.

In this paper, the fracture appearance of the samples, which were made of investment castings from structural steel, were investigated. The experimental results have explained the forming reasons of the "Rock candy" fracture, intergranular fracture and dendrite fracture. The improvement of investment casting was also introduced.

Li Xiangbin, Wang Renzhi, Yin Yuanfa. Investigation on the Shot Peening of a New High Strength Steel[J]. Journal of Materials Engineering, 1991, 0(3): 14-18,53.

The relationship among the shot peening strengthening parameters and the strengthening and damage in the surface layer of material, the effect of peening technical parameters on the surface roughness and on the residual stress field as well as the relationship between the surface changes mentioned above and the fatigue strength of materials have been investigated in a systematic way in the present paper. It is shown that the optimum peening strengthening effect can be obtained only in the condition of appropriate peening strengthening papameters.

With the surface temper inspection of reaming hole of a new steel, the reason to the induce of colour change of reaming hole surface during temper inspection and the reason to the hardness increase of the surface were discussed. It is observed that a high resistance of corrosion, high resistance for temper, high hardness and fine grain martensite layer could be formed under the reaming processing.

The influence of MAE strength which is produced from different stress states of ferro-magnetic materials has been studied in this paper. We have designed a special magnetizer which can be used on ferro-magnetic material. Therefore, the measurement method can be brought in practice for the residual stress in workpiece by the local magnetization, We also have found the relationship between the magnetic depth of workpiece and the current strength of magnetizer.

In the Ti-Al-Sn-Zr-Mo-Si-Nd alloy produced by conventional metallurgical process, the neodymium is precipitated to form neodymium-riched second phase. The study made by SEM, TEM, X-ray diffraction, energy spectroscopy and electron probe shows that the neodymium-riched, second phase is typicall spheroidal or ellipsoidal in shape, bee in crystal structure, and clearly incoherent with the matrix phase. It is composed of Nd, Sn and O. The atom ratio (Nd/Sn) approximately equals 3/2.

Zhang Xiaoling, Hu Naisai. The Preventing of Fatigue Crack Growth in the Residual Compressive Stress Field[J]. Journal of Materials Engineering, 1991, 0(3): 31-34.

Fatigue test results have shown that the rolling hardening greatly improved the fatigue limit of 20Cr steel notched speciments after rolling. The effect is more pronourced on notched specimens than those of smooth specimens. When more small notch root radius are obtained, the hardening effect is more abvious. The fatigue crack growth rates have appeared the change of fast-slow-fast on fatigue fractrue of rolling notched specimens, and have discovered non-propagating crack of the notched specimens on fatigue limit test.
