Chen Jian, Zhang Jishan, Zhang Jinghua, Tang Yajun, Hu Zhuangqi. NiAl-based Intermetallic Alloys:Status and Potential[J]. Journal of Materials Engineering, 1994, 0(12): 1-4.

In this paper the status and potential of NiA1-based intermetallic alloys are presented.NIA1 is considered to be next generation materials for high temperature structural applications for its properties such as high melting temperature, low density and good resistant to oxidation etc. However, low ductility at room temperature and low strength at high temperatur limit its use as engineering materials. The crystal structure, defects and mechanical properties of NiA1 were studied. The room temperature ductility and high temperature strength are improved through alloying, microstructure control and modify the processing technique. But its comprehensive mechanical property need further improvement.

The structure of a therm otropic liquid crystalline copolyester based on PHB and PET was investigated by Differential Scaning Calorimetry,Wide Angles X-ray Diffraction, and Polarizing Light Microscopy. The results show that the copolyester is not uniform in its molecular chain, and is comprised of PHB-rich PET-rich microdomains. It is also observed that both PET and PHB composition can form microcrystals in their micredomains respectively. It is also found that long PHB blocks formed an other insoluable crystallite, the reason for the formation of the crystallite has been discussed.

Ma Zongyi, LÜ Yuziong, Bi Jing. Effect of Particulate Type on Properties of Particulate Reinforced Aluminum Matrix Composites[J]. Journal of Materials Engineering, 1994, 0(12): 12-14.

The SiC and TiC particulates reinforced alumin um matrix composites fabricated by powder metallurgy technique were investigated. It is indicated that on the condition of same particulate content and approximate particulate size, the strength and modulus of the TiC particulate rein forced Al matrix composite are lower than those of the SiC particulate rein forced Al matrix composite, but yield strength/tensile strength ratio of the former is obviously higher than that of the latter. The isothermal heat treatment at elevated temperature for long time has no obvious effect on the strength of TiC particulate reinforced pure Al composite。

Rapid solidification technology was employed to develop high damping Al-Zn-MG-Cu system of alloy, and the effects of graphite and pure aluminium on mechan ical properties and damping capacity of thealloys were studied in this paper. Results show that Al-Zn-Mg-Cu/15wt%Al alloy has the same mechanical properties as the high atrength aluminium alloy 7075-T6and its damping capacity was increased to thelevel of Q-1=6.0?10-3 at room temperature. The superior damping capatity of the prerent alloy is ottributed to the pure aluminium absorbing the viberation energy.

Li Xiangbin, Wang Renzhi, Ru Jilai, Yin Yuanfa. Investigation on the Shot Peening Strengthening of High Strength Steel Tube[J]. Journal of Materials Engineering, 1994, 0(12): 25-29.

The relationship between the shot peening of high strength steel tube and the fatigue properties hasbeen investigated in the paper. In the condition without surface oxidation of the tube, the fatigue cracks initiated in the internal surface while the external wall of the tube was shot peened, but it initated in theexternal surface when the intenal tube wall was shot peened. The fatigue limit(N=106 cycyles)can be increased 42~54%,when both of internal and external tube wall were shot peened. The effect of shot peening on the rotating bending fatigue strength of cylindrical specimens has also been investigated. It wasshown that the fatigue cracks were initiated in the surface for the virgin material resulting to obtain the traditional surface fatigue limit(SFL).For the shot peened material the fatigue cracks were initiated in thesubsurface resulting to obtain internal fatigue limit(IFL),the ratio of which is IFL/SFL=1.34, this value is coincided with the result of that from theoretical analvsis.

The effect of impregnate process on the properties of Nomex honeycomb has been ivestigated. The method of improving the properties and visual quality of Nomex honeycomb has been also discussed. The results show that the properties of Nomex honeycomb manufactured by the new impregnate process totallyreach the specification of France aerospace materials.

The adduct of hexafluoroacetone and an alkali metal fluoride,e. g.,(CF3)2CFOK,is reacted witha 1.4-dihalo-2-butene to replace the halo groups with perfluoro-isopropoxy groups. A silane containing H bonded to Si-for example,HSiCl3-is then added across the double bond of the intermediate, producing bis-(perflubro-isopropoxy)alkyl silane derivatives which are useful,in both monomeric and polymericform, for imparting a high degree of water-repellency to silicate glass,e. g.,Airplane and automobile wind-shields.

Yukio Hirose, Zheng Lin, Toshihiko Sasaki. The Overall Elasti Moduli of Composite Material with Sphetical Inclusions[J]. Journal of Materials Engineering, 1994, 0(12): 39-46.

The average stress-strain behavior of composite material with ellipsoidal inclusions is researched with the matrix methed and equivalent inclusion methed by the authors. The method used is based on theory of Mori and Tanaka. The general formulation of the composite material with spherical inclusions is shown.By using this method, the authors have discussed the average elastic behavior of the compoite material. This composite material is composed of matrix of isotropic mater ials and spherical inclusion of isotropic materials. The volume of any inclusion is smaller than that of matrix, and the inclusions fit tightly against the matrix. The overall average Young's modulus, average shear elasticity and average Poisson's ration of composite material with spherical inclusions are shown, and it is proved that this compoite material is a strict isotropic material. The way to increase the ave rage elastic moduli of the composite material is found.
