Wan Taoyu, Zhang Yizeng. Microfracture Mechanisms in a Particle-Reinforced Aluminum Alloy Metal Matrix Composite[J]. Journal of Materials Engineering, 1996, 0(9): 6-8.

Deformation and microfracture mechanisms in a particle-reinforced aluminum alloys metal matrix composite were studied by in-site tensile dynamic SEM observation. It was found that crack appears in interface layer and leads to debonding. As the load is further increased the crack-opening displacement in the interface is increased while amount of cracks appear in interface between metal matrix and smaller SiC particles.Terminal fracture of the specimen is caused by multiple fracturing and link-up of selected microcracks.Cracks in the aluminum matrix are blunted, which affects coalescence of the local crack before terminal fracture of specimen. This could be attributed to more complex plastic constraint in higher SiC particles content in the matrix. It was also suggested that the further work should be related to statistical addition anlysising of microcrack system in the materials.

Su Ying, Zhang Guoding, Wang Huimin, Zhang Di. Properties and Structure of SiCW+B4CP/MB15 Magnesium Matrix Composite[J]. Journal of Materials Engineering, 1996, 0(9): 9-13.

Sic+B4Cp/MB15 magnesium matrix composite is manufactured by vacuum pressure infiltrtion technique and the mechanical properties of the extruded-state composite are tested.SEM is helped to examine the distribution of the reinforcements and the tensile fracture surface of the composite. In addition, the interfacial structure is analyzed by means of TEM and EDS.SiCW+B4Cp/MB15 extruded-state composite shows much higher room temperature ultimate tensile strength and elastic modulus than those of MB15 matrix and other alloys, the specific UTS and the specific modulus also improve. The above excellent properties are related to the Well-distribution of the reinforcements in the matrix alloy. The whiskers’ends and toughing holes exist on the fracture surface, thus the composite pocesses a certain toughness.Deposition of Zn and the thick Mg-Zn precipatating phases are observed on the interface between SiC and MB15.

Xi Niansheng, Tao Chunhu. An Investigation on Particles Reinforced TiAl Intermetallic-Matrix Composites and the Toughening of Si[J]. Journal of Materials Engineering, 1996, 0(9): 18-20,24.

Particles reinforced TiAl intermetallic-matrix composites have been fabricated by XD synthesis. Particles are uniformly distributed in TiAl intermetallic compounds and play an important role in grain refinement of TiAl matrix.Considerable improvements in room temperature ductility have been achieved by silicon additions.

The high temperature deformation characteristic Ti-17 alloy was investigated using hot compressive test.BY metallographic and TEM observation,it was found that in β region the dominant deformation mechanism was dynamic recovery characteristic of diffusion,at high strain rate, only dynamic recovery operated, while at low strain rate, continuous recrystallization took place,In(α+β)region, the interface slip was dominant deformation mechanism which resulted in dynamic recrystallization at high strain rate. The apparent deformation activation energy Q and strain rate sensitivity m were also calculated, which were 161kJ/mol and 437KJ/mol,0.32 and 0.25 in β and(α+β)region respectively.

This paper represents the characteristics and cause for the fracture failure on the turbine blade, which is made of K405 Ni-base superalloy. The results show that the blade fatigue failure is due to the embroilment, which is induced by the contamination of Bi-Sn low melting point alloy on the blade surface during the manufacturing process of blade, under the effects of the service temperature and stress.
