Abstract:In this paper,the colour reaction of the cerium subgroup of rare earth elements with tribromoarsenazo(TBA)has been studied.Cerium subgroup reacts with the reagent in strong acid medium of HCl to form a blue violet complex which has a maximum absorption at 635nm and its molar ratio of Ce subgroup to TBA is 1:3.The apparent molar absorptivity is(1.15~1.25)×10-5L·mol-1·cm-1 Beer's law is obeyed in (0~25)μg/50mL.The method has been applied to the direct photometric determination of the Ce subgroup in aluminium alloys with satisfactory results.
