    In order to improve the service life of the drill rod,a novel method for reducing residual stress,magnetic treatment,is developed.In this method an interaction between the alternate magnetic field and the residual stress occurs and so the residual stresses are lowered and redistributed.It is verified by experiments that the service lives of the drill rods made from 55SiMnMo steel and those made from 95CrMo steel are all improved after magnetic treatment,and rods made from 55SiMnMo steel got a more obvious improvement.Furthermore it is showed that the fracture form of the drill rods is little affected by magnetic treatment.

    The aluminum alloy for adhesive bonding was anodized in the aqueous solutions of phosphoric acid and the adhesive property was investigated.The mechanical properties of aluminum alloy samples were measured after pre-treating and anodizing.The effects of the anodizing parameters on the adhesion were studied.The surface microstructure of anodized aluminum and its bonding interface with the adhesive were observed.The failure mode was examined.It is shown that both the anodizing and the pre-treating,in which the aluminum alloy was processed by the acid and alkaline aqueous solutions,have an effect on the properties of the samples.The anodizing not only changes the surface constitutes but also produces the porous and microrough film,whose thickness is about 90μm.A transition layer between the alloy and the adhesive,whose thickness is about 20μm,is formed when the adhesive penetrates into the film during bonding.The maximum lap shear strength of the anodized sample is 45.99MPa,while the lap shear strength of the non-anodized sample is 13.59MPa.The adhesion is promoted greatly and the mixed failure mode is found.

    The friction and wear properties and mechanism of three kinds of high polymer slanting wedge materials for frictional damping system of cross-braced bogies were studied.The results showed that the friction coefficients of three kinds of high polymer materials against T10 steel were almost same,and obviously lower than that of couples consisting of ADI against 45 steel.Moreover,the wear volume loss of three kinds of high polymer materials against T10 was obviously lower than that of ADI against 45 steel.

    It was found that by N2 adsorption active carbon can be used to desalt brackish water because of their high surface area and large pore volume,but it has many defects such as high resistance,high energy cost and low intensity.But carbon nanotube is a new material,which has high intensity and low resistance,we can composite the merits of active carbon and carbon nanotube and develop carbon nanotube/active carbon materials combination electrode,which has low energy cost but has high desalination.It was tested that when carbon nanotube content in combination electrode is 10%,the characteristics of combination electrode is the best for us to desalt brackish water because of their high desalination characterization and low energy cost.Adding the piece of electrode is also investigated in this paper,it was found that this kind of combination electrode not only has an effective desalination but also has long desalted cycle period,and more than 95% desalt efficiency is achieved.

    Finite element method was carry out to investigated the effects of friction in a novel equal channel angular pressing(ECAP) based procedure which can handles the strip metal ECAP procedure.The simulation results show that the friction plays a decisive role on the present novel ECAP procedure other than the negative friction effect on conventional ECAP process.The adequate friction and strictly controlled channel size are the warranty of a successful performance in this unique ECAP procedure.

    TiH2 particles coated with SiO2 and Al2O3 was prepared by heterogeneous nucleation method using the SEM to observe the sample and testing the process of the releasing hydrogen.The result shows that the layer of compound coating is uniform and compact;the releasing hydrogen time is delayed dramatically.

    GAO Wanfu. Mechanical Behavior of TiNi Shape Memory Alloy in Constrained Thermal Cycles[J]. Journal of Materials Engineering, 2006, 0(2): 26-28,65.

    The mechanical behavior of TiNi shape memory alloy wires in constrained thermal cycles were studied.The results showed that if the thermal cycle stopped during heating,or stopped during cooling before the forward martensitic transformation started,the loading stress strain curves of the wire exhibited a linear elastic response and then followed by a stress plateau.If the constrained thermal cycle stopped upon cooling while the forward martensitic transformation was in progress,the loading stress strain curves exhibited the stress plateau immediately.Similarly,the unloading stress-strain curves exhibited a linear elastic response followed by a stress plateau if the constrained thermal cycle stopped upon cooling.If the constrained thermal cycle stopped upon heating,the unloading stress strain curves exhibit a plateau immediately.

    Spherical silica(SiO2) particles were obtained by the process of heating irregularly shaped SiO2 powders under radio frequency plasma(RF plasma) condition.The effect of feed rate and particle size on spheroidization efficiency was studied.Properties of the powders were characterized by optical microscope photograph and apparent density.Because of the collisions between fine melting particles in the plasma torch,the processed powder's mean diameter is larger than the original one.And the relationship between spheroidization efficiency and apparent density was also discussed.

    Particles packing bed composed of quinoline insoluble(QI) always forms on the surface of the preform during impregnation of coal tar pitch.The permeability of coal-tar pitch through the cake is one of the most critical factors to determine the impregnation efficiency.Additive,mixture of an anodic mineral and a nonionic organic compound,was added in the coal-tar pitch to discover its effect on the permeability of the coal tar pitch.The viscosity and compositions of pitch changed little,but the permeability was improved obviously by comparing with the parent coal tar pitch.On the basis of Darcy's Law,the mechanism of the additive was thought as dual-flocculant,which can agglomerate QI particles to bigger aggregations.As a result,the mean size of the particles and porosity of the cake were improved,so the permeability the pitch was enhanced.The permeability increased to a maximum and then decreased with increasing concentration of the flocculants.It was found that the additive could increase the densification efficiency when the high-density 2D carbon preform was impregnated and carbonized,though it seems the carbon yield maybe decrease to some degree.

    SONG Wenyan, CUI Hu, SU Xunjia, LIU Zhengtang. Preparation and Properties of Si3N4 Films on Sapphire and Si Substrates[J]. Journal of Materials Engineering, 2006, 0(2): 38-40.

    Si3N4 thin films have been prepared on sapphire and silicon substrates by radio frequency magnetron reactive sputtering in Ar and N2 mixtures with high pure Si disc as the target.The deposition rate,composition,structure,hardness and optical properties of Si3N4 films have been also investigated.The results show that the atom ratio of silicon to nitride is near 3:4 and the deposition films are amorphous compound Si3N4.The hardness of Si3N4 films is much higher than that of sapphire substrate and it also adhere sapphire substrate firmly,so Si3N4 films could offer excellent protection for sapphire windows and domes.

    Thin Pd-Cu/ZrO2-PSS composite membranes were prepared by modified electroless plating technique on 0.2μm graded 316L porous stainless steel(PSS) disks.After the surface of PSS was modified by Pd-doped zirconia,the zirconia side of the modified support was successively coated with palladium and copper by electroless plating.Finally,the as-deposited Pd-Cu/ZrO2-PSS composite membrane was annealed in hydrogen at 773K for 5~10h in order to form a homogeneous palladium-copper alloy film by thermal diffusion.XPS analyses showed the average surface composition of the two membranes were respectively Pd90Cu10 and Pd59Cu41(mass fraction/%).XRD analyses indicated that deposited Pd90Cu10 alloy film contained only fcc(face-centred cubic) phase structure whereas Pd59Cu41 alloy film contained a mixture of fcc and bcc(body-centred cubic phase).Surface micrographs made by SEM showed the presence of some visible pin-holes on the 5μm thick Pd-Cu/ZrO2-PSS membrane, and pinhole free surface for the 10μm one which should possess an excellent perm-selectivity for hydrogen.

    The DC arc plasma was used to prepare Fe,Ni and FeNi alloy nanoparticles in a mixture of H2 and Ar gas atmosphere.The distinct characterization and content of the Fe,Ni and FeNi alloy nanoparticles were investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and TC-436(LECO LTD.)N/O analysis apparatus.The electromagnetic characteristics of the Fe,Ni and FeNi alloy nanoparticles were further measure by Agilent 8722ES microwave network analyzer in 218GHz range.The experimental results show that the ε″of the Fe,Ni,FeNi alloy nanoparticles all appeared the maximum values at 3~4,7~10,14~16GHz,respectively.the ε″and μ′of the FeNi alloy nanoparticles were inversely proportional to the content of Ni,the maximum values of μ′present at 2~4GHz,and the maximum values of μ″ move to high frequency with the increasing of Fe's content.The novel materials could be synthesized for microwave absorptive materials in the several GHz range with the different content of the Fe and Ni.

    Micro-arc oxidation method was employed to deposit oxide film on the surface of magnesium alloy samples.The effects of some factors on the properties of the ceramic coating,such as electrolyte composition,electric density and oxidation time etc.were investigated.The results show that there is a flat peak that varies with the different conditions of oxidation. It is found that a few of flat peaks can be obtained if the electric current is raised step by step and thus a better coating can be produced by combining the control of oxidation time.

    Aluminum foils were dipped in solution containing Ti4+ and heated in air at 500℃ to deposit Ti oxide on the inner walls of pores,and then anodized galvanostatically in ammonium adipate solution,by which Al-Ti composite oxide films were achieved.Film composition and percentage of atom were analyzed by XPS,voltage-time response of aluminum foil during anodizing was followed,dielectric constant of composite films was calculated in theory,and capacitance and durability of aluminum electrolytic capacitors was examined.The results show that impregnating time is optimally 10min,and compared with pure aluminum foils,aluminum foils after impregnating present a larger anodizing velocity.At the same withstanding voltage,the electric capacitance of aluminum electrolytic capacitors with Al-Ti composite oxide films is about 23% higher than that with pure Al2O3 film.The theoretical calculation of dielectric constant is in good agreement with experimental result.The Al-Ti composite oxide films are suitable for dielectric of aluminum electrolytic capacitors.
